You want your code to be hosted so it doesnt just live on your computer. Your computer might crash and you might lose your coding project forever. Thankfully the network has thirdparty applications such as or to host your projects. Each project on a hosting platform is its own code repository aka. Code for open source projects is also hosted on thirdparty applications. Using a version control system you can modify the code of these projects.
